Frequently asked questions
Does Greffier join meetings as a bot?
No. It records your microphone and your computer’s sound, so it works with Zoom, Meet, Teams or any other call app, and with lectures. Nothing joins the call.
Does my audio leave my computer?
Not unless you turn on cloud transcription, which streams it to AssemblyAI with your own key. By default, transcription and summaries run on your computer. A cloud model you choose gets text, never audio.
Do I need an account or a subscription?
No. Greffier has no accounts and no subscription: it’s $5 once, with every v1.x update. A cloud provider, if you use one, needs its own account.
Which computers does it run on?
macOS 13 or later. Windows: soon. Linux: later.
Will summaries work on my Mac?
Yes, on your Mac or in the cloud. Below 24 GB of memory, an on-device summary arrives when you stop recording, so your Mac doesn’t slow down during the call. Below 16 GB, we recommend a cloud model through OpenRouter.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once it’s activated and its models are downloaded: recording, transcription and on-device summaries all work offline. Greffier checks its license now and then, and keeps working offline for 30 days. Cloud options need a connection.
Which languages can it transcribe?
On your computer, Greffier transcribes 100 languages. With cloud transcription (AssemblyAI), it transcribes English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. We’ve measured accuracy only in English, and in German on a small sample.

How accurate is the transcription?
On English read speech, Greffier’s default model makes about half the errors of Whisper’s usual default. We haven’t yet measured real meetings against a reference transcript. The numbers, and how we got them, are on the Accuracy page.
What do the cloud options cost?
Greffier charges nothing for them. You pay each provider directly, at its own prices: OpenRouter through your OpenRouter account, and OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or AssemblyAI through your own API key. If your key is on Google’s free tier, Google may use what you send to train its models.
Is it legal to record a meeting?
It depends on where you and the other people are. In many places, everyone must agree to be recorded. Greffier reminds you to let people know when you start your first recording, and again each time you start one. Telling them is your responsibility.
Can I use it for work?
Yes, in your job or your business. A license is for one person, on up to 3 computers, so each person who uses Greffier needs their own.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds will be set out in the Terms of Sale before sales open.
